I have been trying vegetarian catered products in the refrigerated and frozen section at the supermarket. I have made some opinions, as has my husband, he thinks along the lines of "why eat meat flavored veggies when you can just eat veggies. Here are a few of my opinions:
Yves Hot dogs- not good. These are highly reviewed
Tofurky hot dogs-no good
Smart Dogs- good the first time, but now I know how wrong I was. I am thinking it is impossible to eat a veggie dog.
Boca Burger-good, not so natural ingredients
Garden Burger- good, will try the vegan version next
Do not barbecue tofu.
Morning Star bacon- not bad, but too chemical ridden
Morning Star Turk'y burger- good, can see chunks of veggies in it, like yummy avacado. Good texture
Veggie Patch Broccoli Bites-good, not vegan, my kids would not touch them. I ate them with Stubbs bbq sauce
Field Roast Smoked Apple Sausage-ate two, the rest have been in the fridge for months. These come highly reviewed but I must not like them since some are still in the fridge.
Refridgerated Veggie Patties from Costco-good 90 fat calories, 440mg of sodium. 14 patties for $9.99 probably won't buy them again.
I feel better off eating a boca burger which has 5 fat calories. Their website conflicts on sodium content 260 mg or 520 mg which is it?!
I'm going to make my own veggie patties with a recipe I found in Better Home and Garden magazine. I'll let you know how it goes :)
Happy Vegging!

ReplyDeleteHa - I just checked here for the first time in forever, and you've posted again! And I'll comment so you know at least one person's reading ; )
ReplyDeleteI love the Morningstar Chik'n patties. They're the staple I bring to all BBQs in the summer, since I've grown sick of just eating the potato salad and chips while everyone else has burgers.
Also, if you ever go to Moscow, get some BBQ tofu from the deli at the co-op down there. It's aMAZing, I don't know how they do it!
